Applications Engineer 2

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking an Applications Engineer 2 for the Northeast Region - Preferred locations: Boston, Hartford or Springfield. The Applications Engineer 2 provides mid-level engineering expertise and support on the application of UEC products to specific projects and high profile data center customers. The role is responsible for identifying and providing reliable and innovative solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The role also establishes and maintains strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.  Works under moderate supervision with limited problem-solving responsibility while working under defined guidelines.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain mid-level expertise of product knowledge and application.
  • Complete System Layouts; design layouts of busway systems based on customer drawings and input.
  • Create product technical documentation (catalog sheets, FAQ’s, Tech Briefs, Reports, installation instructions, etc.)
  • Provide technical support to sales and to customers onsite or remotely as required on topics including but not limited to product ratings, compliance with U.S. and foreign codes and standards, safety, functionality, customization, troubleshooting, installation, and pricing.
  • Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of staff and customers
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor
  • Maintain a high level of integrity

Additional Duties:

  • Onsite troubleshooting and rework.
  • Technical liaison to the sales team
  • Represent the company at industry tradeshows and events
  • Monitor market trends and identify impact on product development and suggest new products and services to promote and market
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Aptitude for electrical product design and application in power distribution products.
  • Familiarity with the NEC, UL standards and various North American certifications
  • Persuasive and articulate, with an ability to communicate and influence people at all levels, verbally, in writing and by presentation.
  • Stable, loyal and reliable, with a customer focused personality.
  • Self-reliant, flexible and resourceful.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the electrical engineering field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Proficient in technical writing and communication.
  • Team player with solid cross-functional experience
  • Ability to travel up to 25% on a regular basis.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
