Machinist Night Shift

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Machinist for our Night Shift. The Machinist is responsible for managing the workload of the machine operators. Prioritize the jobs on the Dispatch board, while managing the team to their strengths in order to achieve schedule attainment.

Essential Functions

  • Safely set up and operate production runs on machine shop tooling, including, but not limited, milling machines, lathe, horizontal band saws, punch press, shear, hydraulic press, bench grinders and sanders and drill presses.
  • Verify conformance of work for yourself and others using precision measuring equipment.
  • Design and fabrication of production fixtures
  • Order materials required to complete the scheduled jobs
  • Overall responsibility in setting up machines to run conforming parts
  • Complete all First Article Inspections (FAIs) to ensure parts meet engineering specifications
  • Use computer programs such as Syteline and Dispatch throughout the shift
  • Act as mentor and go-to person when team leader is not available
  • Adhere to all company policies, guidelines and practices including the SECRIT values

Additional Duties

  • Directs the work of Machine operators
  • Communicate with Quality, Engineering and Supervision as required
  • Manage rush jobs with minimal effect on the schedule
  • Other duties as assigned by management
  • Ability to work overtime when the need arises

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics and sketches
  • Ability to follow direction from production supervision
  • Highly detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy
  • Knowledge of machinability of materials (metal and non-metal)
  • Proficiency in shop mathematics
  • Ability to work within close tolerances
  • Ability to effectively communicate with production and engineering teams, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use MS Outlook, Word and Excel proficiently

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five years Machinist experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where, in certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
