Manufacturing Test Engineer 2

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer 2. As a member of the Test Engineering team this position will perform engineering services as required for the development and maintenance of custom and standard test equipment. This position is responsible for improving production testing technologies and ensuring their stable and productive operation. This includes legacy systems such as metered and non-metered automated plug testers, meter calibration stations, end-feed testers, label printers and first-article inspection application as well as new technologies.  Provide technical support to assembly departments including training and demonstration.  Bring testing methods and technology to all production departments.

Essential Functions: 

  • Develop hardware/software technology that supports manufacturing quality and efficiency
  • Document the theory, design and operation of test equipment to ISO standard policies
  • Train supervisors and operators on use of technologies
  • Provide technical support
  • Communicate status changes to relevant personnel
  • Identify opportunities for additions and improvements
  • Upgrade system components as required
  • Integrate with ERP and MES systems
  • Maintain process and equipment documentation and data
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of software architecture and development
  • Proficiency with National Instruments LabVIEW / Microsoft Visio / Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of networking / wireless networking
  • Experience with an ERP system preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills in relation to troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Familiar with hand tools / soldering / electro-mechanical assembly required
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, schematics and wiring diagram
  • Organizational, time management, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two year technical degree, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of functional test engineering in a technical environment (electrical / electronic / automation)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
