Senior Mechanical Engineer

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides leadership in the design, development, and validation of new products.  Works under minimal supervision with wide latitude for independent judgement.

Essential Functions: 

  • Create innovative, customizable power distribution and monitoring solutions to provide value to our enduring partners in all the markets we serve.
  • Use a systematic, analytically-based approach to concepting, designing, and testing.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of UEC designed products.
  • Perform advanced mechanical engineering design tasks and provide feedback in support of customer specific customizations of UEC products.
  • Assist in directing the testing required, verifying product performance, system integration and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to assure product manufacturability.
  • Create mentoring relationships with other Engineers
  • Review the work of others including Drafters and Engineers.

Additional Duties:

  • Jobsite support.
  • Collaboration with certification laboratories such as UL, CSA and Intertek (ETL) as well as various international agencies.
  • Assist in leading Team-based initiatives within UEC

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced experience with integrated system design including mechanical and thermal simulation, 3D modeling, GD&T, DFM, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Working knowledge of applicable agency standards.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management processes and principles.
  • Work is complex and important to the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology (MS Mechanical Engineering preferred.)
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer (10 years preferred.)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where, under certain areas, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection are required.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
