Payroll Administrator

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Payroll Administrator. The Payroll Administrator completes a multitude of payroll functions and develops a general understanding of all Payroll operations.   Under the direction of the Payroll Manager, this position is a key administrator of the Payroll System and is responsible for updating and maintaining the payroll database for a growing, multi-state, and international company.

Essential Functions:  

  • Pull information from electronic time clocks via Time and Attendance and contact appropriate supervisor(s) or management for missed times
  • Update personnel records in the payroll system for such items as pay rate, address, health benefit, garnishment, tax and 401-K withholding
  • Verify and update information and run various reports before processing payroll through ADP; solve internal problems, answer employee inquiries and enforce payroll policies
  • Provide information to and assist auditors for WC vendors and other appropriate agencies; provide information as needed by government agencies
  • Execute check/payment requests to remit various wage garnishments to appropriate party
  • Assist Payroll Manager with journal entries to record all payroll-related cash transactions, and accurately maintain various Excel sheets related to payroll/turnover
  • Compile entries to record payroll-related deductions
  • Complete written and verbal employment verifications per company policy

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   

  • Ability to maintain employee confidentiality
  • Effective communication skills and strong attention to detail required
  • Advanced analytical skills with ability to solve payroll-related problems
  • Strong computer skills with some proficiency in MS Office
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles

Minimum Qualifications:    

  • Three years’ experience in payroll administration
  • Experience in ADP Workforce Now preferred
  • Fundamental Payroll Professional credentials a plus
  • Post high school degree or certificate in business or similar
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or similar preferred

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with others
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
