Mechanical Engineer 2

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 2.  The Mechanical Engineer 2 provides mechanical engineering support for the commercialization, application, and customization of all UEC products.  Works under moderate supervision with limited problem-solving responsibility while working under defined guidelines.

 

Essential Functions

  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Test (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of UEC designed products.
  • Perform mechanical engineering design tasks and provide feedback in support of customer specific customizations of UEC products.
  • Create technical documentation such as drawings, O&M Manuals, installation instructions, work instructions and product catalogs.
  • Support the integration of 3rd party products with UEC’s product offerings. 
  • Conduct testing required, verifying product performance, system integration and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to assure product manufacturability.
  • Help to support improvements to UEC’s engineering information systems to ensure high quality engineering information is provided to production and other customers of this information.
  • Support the automation of design tasks.
  • Provide guidance to Drafters to support project goals.
  • Ability to check the work of others including Drafters and Engineers.

 

Additional Duties

  • Jobsite support.
  • Collaboration with certification laboratories such as UL, CSA and Intertek (ETL) as well as various international agencies.  Provide lab testing support. 
  • Participate in Team-based initiatives within UEC.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced experience using Inventor and the VAULT.
  • Experience with an ERP system – Syteline Preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office tools.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and principles.
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing methodologies and techniques.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the mechanical engineering field.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%
  • Prior experience with UEC products is a plus.

 

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk and communicate with others.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
