Plant Manager

Universal Electric Corporation is seeking a Plant Manager. The Plant Manager is responsible for all activities, output and performance of the in-house manufacturing processes and the personnel who perform them on all shifts. The Plant Manager must model high standards of conduct and lead personally by example according to Universal Electric Corporation’s (UEC) SECRIT values.  This position is responsible for ensuring that all products meet quality specifications, testing requirements and design criteria. The Plant Manager will ensure that safety, quality, delivery and cost goals are met by closely monitoring operational metrics, identifying areas of continuous improvement and taking appropriate action.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain high employee morale
  • Models high standards of conduct and leadership
  • Responsible for ensuring that all output built meets departmental metrics for SQDIP (safety, quality, delivery, inventory and productivity)
  • Execute production schedule by managing human and material resources to meet production targets, adjust resource allocation as necessary
  • Manage and direct UEC production and warehousing team members according to UEC leadership development training (or equivalent)
  • Drive the culture of kaizen in coordination with the OPEX team, and lead daily management of SQDIP
  • Oversee plant-wide safety and facilities teams on all shifts
  • Manage manufacturing operations processes, including the mentoring of shift and frontline supervisors to ensure a smooth 24-hour operation
  • Communicate and coordinate with all other business units:Engineering, Operational Excellence Purchasing, Planning, Finance, Human Resources, IS/IT, etc.
  • Support and enforce quality and production processes in accordance with ISO 9001 standards
  • Responsible for meeting departmental budget
  • Adhere to all company policies, guidelines and practices including the SECRIT values.

Additional Duties

  • Provide input into departmental budget
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts, including 5S
  • Team building skills including ability to proactively resolve conflict while maintaining harmonious work environment
  • Proficiency using MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP (Infor CloudSuite preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead teams while achieving goals
  • Proven ability to develop individuals and teams
  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Ten years’ leadership/supervisory experience in an assemble-to-order manufacturing environment; three years with a span of control of 150+
  • Seven years of experience working in and leading a lean manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience training and developing front line supervisors and second level supervisors

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Required exposure to manufacturing areas where the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
  • Ability to stand/walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs
