Operational Excellence Manager



Universal Electric Corporation is seeking an Operational Excellence Manager. The Operational Excellence Manager will provide overall management of the OPEX function by driving SQDC business metrics (safety, quality, delivery, cost) through lean implementation.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and execute short-range and long-range continuous improvement plan 
  • Formulate and oversee implementation and effectiveness of process improvement initiatives (derived from lean/six-sigma tools)
  • Lead team consisting of Manufacturing Engineers, Test Engineers/Technicians targeting performance improvement of SQDC metrics
  • Lead OPEX team in the deployment of process-integral quality and root cause analysis (PFMEA, Ishakawa, 8D tools)
  • Identify, evaluate and oversee the implementation of technology enhancement and automation opportunities
  • Manage plant-wide and production department ‘daily management’ program through SQDC visual management

Additional Duties

  • Assist in the development of company-wide and business function metrics
  • Provide Operations representation for Engineering DFM activities
  • Lead team of Production Specialists in ownership of Bills of Manufacturing (routings, cycle times, etc.)
  • Oversee deployment of Standard Work and Work Instructions
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams with diverse backgrounds and skill sets
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability (PFMEA, Ishakawa, 8D, 5 Whys)
  • Excellent knowledge of lean and six sigma principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of document management within the ISO 9001 standard
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, Industrial Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of ten years working in an Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement role
  • Minimum of five years managing Operational Excellence/Continuous Improvement teams
  • Six Sigma Lean, Green Belt certified.  Black Belt certification preferred

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk and communicate with others.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
